![]() ![]() These are designed to take the full force of stopping the bike, but they work better than rim brakes on the rear because when you brake with your pedals you're forced to use proper body mechanics and leverage on the back pedal which puts your weight behind the bottom bracket, ergo more effectively weighting the back wheel. The only bikes that have rear braking only, are kids bikes and coasters/cruisers, which sometimes have hub brakes. Running a free flowing exhaust and not tuning the carb will make you run a little lean also. You can normally hear the switch click just as the throttle is fully closed. The sooner you fix your front brake, the less likely you will be to have to replace other parts due to excess wear. Running lean with a small exhaust leak will make the popping excessive. If the switch doesnt close at closed throttle, or (here is the rider technique part) you almost close the throttle but dont roll all the way off on deceleration then it pumps unburned fuel into the exhaust and when you roll back on it sounds like a loud gunshot. Riding with a rear brake only is a good way to wear out brake pads, rotors, and tires. Get your weight as far back on the bike as you can to try and weight your rear tire in emergencies.Rules for stopping effectively with only a rear rim/disc brake: When I come to a stop the idle is off, it almost feels like it is mis firing. As soon as i give it gas the engine responds correctly, but then starts missing. When I put the car in drive and get down the road 100 or so, it starts missing, and if I give it a lot of gas it backfires through the carb. The passenger may not be prepared for a quick stop, and there is little to. You are very dependant on your front brake for the majority of your stopping power, especially when trying to stop quickly, as momentum will load your front wheel while decelerating and lift weight off of your rear. And does braking technique need to be different for sports bikes or cruisers. this is because the amount of egr required depends upon the operating conditions of the engine. egr valves are required to regulate the amount of exhaust being recirculated back in to the cylinder. Riding without a front brake puts excess strain on your rear brake. Rate this answer: N/A Worst Weak OK Good Great. The first thing you need to recognize is that you literally have less than half of your original stopping power. When you coast or decelerate the engine acts as a brake, thats when youll get the cackle and popping sound i.e. ![]()
